The brief was to design a single estate comprised of two dwellings on a patch of land 6x30m regardless the location, and surroundings. The project was in collaboration with a forth-year student. Because of the freedom given in the brief, we decided to have designers as potential clients, therefore our proposal consists of two one-bedroom dwellings with working studios linked with a bridge, suggesting a studio-based environment.
We aimed to design both houses with similar conditions of living, but in a different shape and a scale. The dwelling located on the east side of the land is designed considering efficient use of space and height. In contrast, the house facing the west is formed around a void in plan and section using levels for the ‘day – night’ arrangement. Both dwellings have curtain walls facing the garden, which allows daylight into the living spaces. Furthermore, the facades facing the courtyard could be fully opened which enables the inhabitants to play with the concept of inside - outside.
